To Quote the King, "Let me shoot a seven with every shot". GSDRGA and our new additions have been singing along since last weekend.
Life can change with a roll of the dice. GSDRGA Foster dogs Ballon, Rocco, Itty, Chelsea, Hannah, Bliss, Sadie, Xena and Aashka got lucky and were rescued on 4/23/16. They were used for breeding their whole lives. The breeder had been in business over 10 years, so that means thousands of puppies were produced. At least one litter, maybe 2, was produced each year, by each female.
Before rescue, our " Operation Lucky Seven" dogs lived in 10x10 kennels on a concrete slab, with a dog house in each enclosure. The policy of the kennel was that dogs were not taken out of the kennels for any reason, except to take them to the female kennel for breeding. That meant no playtime, going for walks or cuddle time, like our pet dogs do. Once a dog became too old for breeding, they were never taken out of their kennel for any reason, life was solitary confinement. There was no social play area for them to run around, and they received no exercise or training. To be clear, these dogs lived their entire lives in that 10x10 without any way to get the daily exercise or stimulation they need to thrive. With the exception of Ballon, none of them had any toys to play with; Ballon had one Kong that he was heavily dependent on to stay calm. Their diets were low grade dog food, and were not fed enough to stay at ideal weights. They were underweight and some had developed skin problems. Our volunteers saw them eat their own feces due to hunger.
GSDRGA volunteers immediately took the dogs to Bartow Animal Hospital for vetting after we rescued them. Overall, they were fairly healthy, considering they were not well cared over for the past several months. They are all underweight. The females all have extra skin and room in their bellies, and their uteruses were fatty and misshaped from continuous breeding. One dog has Pannus (dry eyes) and may eventually go blind since it was not treated for so long. Another had a problem putting weight on her back leg, which could be due to an old injury. One long haired dog was not groomed, so her fur is matted, and will need to be shaved. Another has flea dermatitis and hair loss. During spay surgery, we discovered Bliss had a mammary tumor, and it was removed. We also discovered Aashka was bleeding, and had a very bad infection in her uterus, Had we waited a few more days, the infection would have spread, and she may not have survived. Aashka truly rolled a 7!
Big thanks to our volunteers Katie & Walter, who got up at the crack of dawn to start these dogs on their journey!
Mia is your typical 16 month old GSD in many ways. She loves to play ball and drops it easily. She's always up for an adventure, be it a hike, a trip to the pet store or hardware store, running around the backyard playing with her 3 foster sisters, or just a walk around the neighborhood. Unfortunately Mia wasn't socialized with people or dogs outside of her owners home so she was very fearful of everything in her situation there. She was so scared that she stopped eating and just laid in a ball in her cage wondering why she was abandoned by her family. The shelter reached out to us and explained what her situation was, immediately GSDRGA sprang into action to save her. Since then Mia ha been working with one of our amazing fosters to learn how to interact with all animals, as well as how to meet new people. Mia's found her forever home and is living the life she was meant to have!
Meet Rex, our newest addition to the GSDRGA family. Rex came to us from a North Georgia shelter where he was found as a stray so we don't know much about his past. What we do know is that he is one handsome boy who has the personality to match. Rex is approximately 1.5 years old and still has a lot of puppy energy left in him. He loves toys of any kind but his favorite by far is a ball. He loves to play fetch and if you think you can wear him out, think again. He loves to be with people and will let you have the honor of rubbing his belly until your arm wears out.
Rex is highly intelligent and learns commands very fast. He was able to learn sit & down in less than five minutes. He loves learning new things and would be able to learn as much as you want to teach him. He does great with other dogs and is learning how to live with cats. He met a cat for the first time in his foster home and was very curious to figure out what they were. After spending a couple days investigating them he was satisfied that they were part of the family.
Rex would do best in an active home where he will get plenty of daily exercise. He will need someone that will continue his training and allow him to practice it often. Since he thinks that he is a teddy bear, Rex will need a home that will show him lots of love and will spoil him rotten. If that's you, click the button under his picture to complete your application.
Meet Nadja! This adorable, energetic 15 month old shepherd is ready to join your family Nadja would do best in an active and energetic family, as she loves to play and go for long walks or hikes. Nadja came to her foster family already crate trained and is working on her house training now. She is very intelligent and is in the process of learning much more.
Nadja loves dogs of all sizes and plays very well with toys and will even fetch a ball. Because she is so loving and will occasionally jump in her excitement, she would be best in a house without very small children. A family with a fenced in yard or another dog to tire her out would be preferred, as she loves to run and chase.
Nadia was found wondering in the North Georgia woods dragging a cinder block that was tied to her neck by a steel cable. She had an ear infection in both ears that led to both of her ear drums being damaged, as well as an open wound to her right ear. Due to her condition she had to spend several weeks at our vet to recover.
Are you an active household that is looking for a very intelligent and high energy best friend? Get your application in below.
Meet Tank, he is looking for his new forever home for the holidays. He came to us from Paulding County after his owner passed away. He just turned seven, but definitely doesn't act like it. In fact, if you didn't know his age you would think he is around 5 years old. Don't let the younger age fool you, he is a very laid back fellow. I know you are wondering why he's named Tank, well he weighs in at 108 pounds. The funny thing is he doesn't know it, his favorite thing to do is curl up with you on the couch and lay his head and front paws on your lap. He is dog and cat friendly, loves to meet new people, and looks forward to his evening walk around the neighborhood.
His ideal forever home would be with a family that has a member that is home during the day, or somebody that is retired. His previous owner was retired so Tank was with him throughout the day and needs the same stability. If you're looking for a laid back and affectionate boy, get your application in quickly by clicking on the button below.
This poor girl was found in a trap by a rural shelter, covered in fleas and ticks, most of her fur gone but sweet as sugar and happy to be with people. It's astounding, how resilient these dogs are, despite what they have been through. Look at her now! Her fur was missing due to allergies, but after being treated she is ready to be a model. Just check out her pictures below, she's red carpet ready. Grace is ready for adoption. She gets along with dogs and loves people. Get your application in below if you are ready to add this beauty to your family.
Thanks to all Grace's supporters, including CWD Nero
The last lucky Dog!! Sadie is a sweet lady who has waited 10 YEARS to find her forever home. She spent the first 9 years in a breeding facility where she only knew a 10' x 10' cage. Christmas miracles do happen!
Meet Ziva! This 12 month old, spunky, good time girl is looking for a family that loves to have fun! Ziva is intelligent, friendly, and enjoys life to the fullest. She’s quite the little firecracker and loves to meet new friends of both the two and four legged variety! She has recently undergone hip surgery but that hasn’t slowed her down one bit. She has recovered from her surgery and runs and plays with the best of them.
Meet Itty! Itty is the sweetest guy, and he is amazing with other dogs and kids. He is starved for attention, and wants nothing more than to be by your side. He is learning how to play with toys, and it is sinking in for him that he is safe and won't have to worry about being stuck in a kennel for the rest of his life - we swear he's telling us thank you, with sweet nudges and kisses every day.
My name is Zeus. I finally found my forever family! I am around three years old (I don't know my birthday!! I hope my new family helps me pick one so I can celebrate with pupcakes!) and I am fully vetted. My foster family tells me I am very smart and loyal - the epitome of a GSD.
Meet Gretchen, this super sweet girl is ready to meet her forever family. She came to us from a west Georgia shelter with an ear infection in both ears. She was in severe pain and needed medical attention right away. Thats's when GSDRGA stepped in and rescued this little girl. We could tell right away that this girl has had a rough life so far. She is very shy at first, but once she gets to know you she shows nothing but unconditional love.
Loki came to us from Gordon County shelter. When he got to our veterinarian's office we noticed he was limping, and after an X-Ray they found that his hip was completely dislocated. It's possible he was hit by a car from the look of the injury. Loki completed his FHO surgery and has fully regained the use of his leg. He is happy as can be with his new family.
Thanks to Loki's Sponsors: Chris & Fritz; Ginger, Aragorn and in memory of Dargo; Terry, Nicole & Amici Throm
Jill is 1 year and 8 months old. She is spayed and is finished with her heart worm treatment. She has basic obedience, walks well on a leash, and is fully house trained. Her ideal home would be with another dog her size to play with.
Drake came to rescue from an area shelter so we really don't know a lot about his past, but he has educated us on exactly who he is now. He is one really handsome and sweet GSD. He gets along with other dogs, people, and is just a great dog. He loves to be near you and is always eager to learn.
Meet Parry! She's around a year old, and has such striking coloring, doesn't she? She is such a loving girl and has so much love to give to her parents. She loves to play fetch, but tug o' war is definitely her second favorite.
Hannah is the sweetest girl! With every new person she meets she is affectionate and loving. She has yet to meet a stranger. She loves to be by your side where ever you are.
Kairos is quite the goober. He is incredibly sweet, has a great temperament and is awesome around other dogs, people and children. He is good on a leash, and comes when called. He is a great cuddler and prefers sleeping on the bed, though he knows he isn’t allowed on the couch. He loves to chew and destroy toys, but he also knows the difference between my things and his toys. He does really enjoy being around other dogs.
Cooper is an extremely happy dog at the tail-end of his puppy stage, and he is 1.5-2 years old. He is a big, handsome boy that still has some filling out to do. Cooper is a very sweet, gentle dog that loves attention, and he will show you much affection.
Meet Sydney, what a gorgeous young lady! She may act a little shy at first, but once she warms up to you she is so loveable. Sydney loves attention, and likes nothing more than for you to spend time with her on walks or trips to the park. She does great with kids and other dogs. She bonded so well with her foster sister that she needs a home with another dog where she will get lots of attention. Sydney needs a home without cats as it's to tempting not to play chase. If you are interested in Sydney please apply below.
Here is a story in the local news about Myles. He has recovered and has started his new life with his forever family. As you know. his former owner was indicted on 4 counts of animal cruelty!
This is why we do rescue, and we could not have done it without a team of caring volunteers.
Myles has a second chance at a new life, thanks to us. Big thanks to Katie & the vet office for transporting Myles & getting him healthy enough to go to foster.
He is doing wonderful in his foster home, and has already picked up on some commands, house training, and walking on a leash. You will notice his shorter tail in the photos - Itty lost the end of his tail last year due to a snake bite - so he wants you to know that the items on your coffee table are safe from long GSD tail swipes!! Itty is 6 years old, and acts like he is around 2 or 3. He has lots of energy and would love a home with kids and dogs to play with!! You can donate towards his vet care or apply for adoption below.
Oh, what a handsome boy!! Cody is our newest rescue pup. He is around a year old and he is just as sweet as he is handsome. He loves playing with other dogs, and he is very eager to please and easily corrected so we think he would be fine around smaller dogs and cats as well. He loves kids, and he is really enjoying being in his foster home and getting endless attention and play time. He is fully vetted and he is so ready to find his forever family! Is it you? You can apply for Cody below.
Chelsea is shy, and incredibly sweet and gentle. She is a healthy girl, up to date on her vetting, and has been spayed. Her coat is absolutely gorgeous, as you can see, and she loves being groomed as well.

How can you resist this face? Beautiful Miss Stella came to us from a metro shelter, and she is enjoying lots of love and attention in her forever home!
Lacey is from the same North Georgia shelter as Lucy, both were picked up as strays. Lacey was also heartworm positive. Once she finished her treatment, she went off to her happy ending.
Spinx is a wonderful young German Shepherd. He loves people and other dogs and mostly dinner time! He even gets along with cats pretty well. He is housebroken and crate trained and is very smart. Hey! It's Minka! If you remember, I came to the rescue with a badly injured leg and I worked hard on rehabilitation following surgery. Thanks to GSDRGA, I found the perfect home.
Thank You Supporters: Cole, Scout, Bran Cowart
Zoe is an owner surrender, at 8 months old, her elderly owner could not keep up with her and asked us for help. Zoe is healthy and a big girl, but will need an owner to continue to keep her active and give her structure. We will update her bio when we learn more about this girl.
Lola was an owner surrender, and was heartworm positive. She was a complete sweetheart, and is loving life with her new family .
Can you tell how happy Triton is to be out of the shelter? This strapping young boy is very intelligent, and went on to be a service dog.
Sponsor Bronwyn Bartholomew - I am donating towards Triton's vet bill. Good luck with your new life, Triton! 🐾
Piper was pulled from a local shelter right before Thanksgiving. She's a sweet girl, about 2-3, on the small side. She will be finishing up heartworm treatment soon. She is great with kids and other dogs but we are not sure about cats.
Who remembers Bear? He's done with heartworm treatment, and with his forever family! He wanted to show off a photo from his visit to the Christmas tree farm with his foster family...
Volka is a pretty black and cream colored GSD. She loves everyone she meets. Thanks to Volka's Sponsor, In Memory of Duchess
Hi Everyone! I’m Ike. I came to rescue from Fulton County, after being found abandoned in a warehouse. Today I am loving life with my new family.
This handsome young man is named Ranger! He was almost 8 months old when he came into rescue via a middle Georgia shelter. This boy is sweet as can be and loves to follow his family and fellow pack members around.
Dixie came from the rural Walker County shelter, in far north GA. Dixie was one of those dogs who needed a Guardian Angel, and we were it. Besides being HW positive, she was infested with worms and was very thin and weak. When we got her to our vet, an ACL tear was diagnosed, and she needed surgery. Our vet did the surgery, and her treatment after.
Thanks to Dixie's Sponsors: Elizabeth VanderWyden Raffa, Kelsey Beach and Aydin Abdollahian; In Memory of Maggie on behalf of Nicole Meyer
Hey everybody! My name is Ollie, and I was SO thankful to have been a part of the GSDRGA family. I was in an Atlanta shelter when they pulled me, and now I am living the dream!
Hi, my name is Faline! Not too long ago, I was a stray dog found playing in a sprinkler with some fun kids at an apartment complex. I love kids!! When the Rescue found out I was in the shelter, they got me out of there as soon as they could!
My name is Ella (but my human Mom calls me Ellie Belly.) About this time last year, my human Dad and Mom worked with the German Shepherd Dog Rescue Group of Georgia and adopted me, my Mom had always wanted a German Shepherd dog. I live out in the country with lots of space to run around and I am a little spoiled if I say so myself.
Abby is young and healthy, she is between one and two years old, and she is GREAT with other dogs and loves children. Abby found her happily ever after.
We rescued Katy from a rural shelter all the way up by wine country. She's a sweet pretty girl with classic black & tan markings, about 3 years old.
Kobe is about 6 months old and came to us through the Fulton County shelter. He's all grown up now with a family that adores him.
Rex is a big hunk of love around 3-4 years old came to us from a shelter in north Georgia. He is great with kids and other dogs, and we don't know how he is with cats, yet. His favorite activity is trying to escape his foster home's backyard so he can hang out with some deer friends - so he will definitely need a high fenced yard in his forever home!! He is house trained and he knows several commands - he is a very smart boy! Unfortunately, Rex is heartworm positive and has begun his treatment. Otherwise, he is a healthy and very active dog. He is up to date with his vaccines, he's been neutered, and he has a microchip. He will be available for adoption in June, so send in your applications for this handsome and loving boy! We have several dogs going through heartworm treatment right now, so donations toward their care would mean the world to us! Thank you!
Rocky is DONE with heartworm treatment and he is ready to find his forever home! This handsome boy was turned into a rural shelter in northwest Georgia by his owners. Their loss is our gain, because this dog is the true essence of a GSD. He is smart as a whip, eager to please, protective of his family, and he knows several commands. He is the only dog in his foster home, and he does enjoy being the center of attention. He has done fine with other dogs with proper introduction, and we don't know how he is with cats. He is around 4 years old, and fully vetted and up to date on everything - the only thing missing is his forever family! Get your applications in today for this handsome sable boy. He would make a wonderful addition to your family!!
Meet our new guy, Ace!! We were contacted by a rural south Georgia shelter about this handsome young guy, and after hearing his story we just had to help. Apparently, Ace had been on his own for a while, and he got himself tangled up in an electric fence. When the shelter staff found him, his snout was completely split open and his beautiful tail was in shreds. His snout is healing nicely, and the hair is growing in white where the injury occurred - so it looks like he will have a very distinctive marking on his face. Athough they tried, unfortunately his tail could not be saved - there was too much necrotic tissue by the time the shelter found him.
Bill is a lovable German Shepherd mix. We think he's mixed with Golden Retriever. He came to us from the Fulton County Animal Shelter and was fostered while being successfully treated for heartworms. The vet guesstimates his age to be about 4 years. Bill's temperament is laid back, lovable and playful. If allowed, he would sit in your lap, cuddle next to you on the couch, or sleep in your bed! He is stranger friendly, and doesn't mind big crowds.
Sarge is a young, handsome sable boy. The vet estimates him at around 2 years old. He is very smart and playful, and loves to play fetch as long as you will let him! He came to us from a shelter in the metro area, and he's been doing great in his foster home with fellow GSDs and an 8 year old boy. He is crate and house trained, and he would do best in a home with kids at least 8 years old or older, as he can play rough as he's learning his manners. He is up to date on his vaccines, and he has started heartworm treatment. He will be available for adoption once he completes treatment, in mid-June. He loves attention and affection, and he is learning how to walk on a leash beautifully. Can you give Sarge his forever home?
My name is Shadow. Everybody tells me I am such a handsome boy!! I have a lot of energy and l love to play with my foster dad or any other dogs. My perfect playmate would be a bigger dog around my size so he or she can challenge me. I can handle being around smaller dogs as long as they are not scared of me.
Rico is a fun loving, active 5 month old male GSD Puppy who needs a strong leader to help him grow into a well balanced shepherd. Like most pups, Rico loves to play, steal socks and eat lots of good food. Rico would be great as an only dog or with an older buddy that can show him the ropes. Are you willing and able to invest a lot of time and a little clean energy for an amazing puppy? If so, Rico might be the fuzzy white GSD for you. Rico will be available for adoption once his vetting is complete, to include shots, neuter, and microchip.
Tony is almost 7 years old. He is a great companion who loves his people and has a very strong desire to please. He is so smart and learns very quickly. He knows all the essential commands and walks well on a leash. He loves to learn new things especially if treats or toys are involved. Tony's ideal forever home would be with a family with a big fenced yard and lots of time to play ball, hide and seek, tug-o-war, go on car rides, and cuddle. He needs an family that has experience with working dogs (GSD, Belgian Malinois, etc.), he will test the rules and enjoys having a job. He would like to have a doggy brother or sister to keep him company when his people are not home, LOTS of toys, and his own soft place to rest.
Molly is ready to find her forever family!! She is around 11 months old, and her former owners moved away and left her behind. How could anyone leave this pretty face?? Luckily, a neighbor noticed what was going on and got in touch with us. Molly is very sweet natured and she has a lot of energy. She's already learning a few commands, and she needs a family that can continue her training and work on basic manners. She is very playful with kids and other dogs, and she is fine with cats. Molly adores attention, and she loves running around and playing with toys. She is up to date with her vetting, heartworm negative, microchipped, and ready to go! This pretty girl got a rough start in life, but we are happy to help her find her new home.
Dottie came to us from Cobb County Animal Control. She was brought in in very bad shape; she has probably been on her own awhile. She is about 2 years old.
All four of her paws were swollen, she has a broken tooth, her left eye is likely infected, there is some discharge, and her teeth are covered in tartar. She's very skinny, about 50 lbs., but a sweet girl who looks pretty in pink.
Special thanks to Dottie's Sponsors: Karen, Mark and Penni Johns, Lupina and Edith Miller
Schwartz came to rescue from a local shelter, so we don't have much history on him. He was very sick when he arrived at GSDRGA, with Heartworms and a respiratory illness. It took him a few weeks to feel better and he is over his illness. He loves people.

Hi! My name is Ava and I found a new home thanks to GSDRGA. I was found wandering the streets and very hungry. I didn't know what I was going to do, but now I am happy and loved.
Goliath is huge he is 3 months old and already almost 30lbs, and so very smart. He is already housebroken and crate trained, and he loves playing with other dogs and even cats. He has a high drive and will do well in an active home that can keep him busy.
Meet Nos ( short for Nitrous Oxide) new rescue dog. Last month, we had a sorority, this month a fraternity! Nos is our third "brother" we rescued this week. He's from Fulton Co. shelter and is Belgian Malinois with some GSD mixed in. He was named for Nitrous Oxide, since he is very high energy. Luckily, he put the ball in his mouth to take a picture.
We think he's around 7-12 months old. He'll need an active home and would probably enjoy swimming, hiking or agility. We're learning more about him as he settles in too.
Welcome Miss Gina to the GSDRGA family! Volunteers at a shelter in south Georgia reached out to us about this sweet girl who came in as a stray over the summer, and we couldn't resist helping after hearing about what a wonderful temperament this girl has.
Let's welcome Kole to the GSDRGA family! Kole is a 10 month old black and silver male. Kole came to us as an owner surrender due to lack of time to exercise and socialize this handsome young boy, and now he's found his perfect forever family.
Mia is the baby of our GSDRGA family! Mia is about 3 months old and from the size of her ears, you know she's going to be a big girl! She came to us from Fulton Co. Shelter. Her owners never came back for her. We don't understand how they could do that to all that preciousness, but that's why GSDRGA is here.

Bear new family met him at the Gwinnett Gladiators hockey game, and it was love at first sight! They said that when they got home from the hockey game, the kids convinced them that Bear needed them. They were right! Bear looks so happy, and we know he will have a great life with kids and dogs to play with every day. His new Dad plans to start obedience training with him right away, and we have no doubt that Bear will be a great student as he is so eager to please. Congrats to Bear and his new family!!!
BIO: Bear came to the Rescue as a stray, and he is the most affectionate and loving dog you'll ever meet. He's about 4 years old. He loves attention and being right next to you. He would make a perfect companion dog for someone who has time to devote to him. He is great with kids and other large dogs, and we are unsure about small dogs and cats. He walks great on a leash and he is working on his basic commands, with significant progress on his 'sit' and 'down' commands. He is working on his manners, but he is very eager to please and a quick study - his only vice is not wanting to be away from his people and constantly wanting love. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines.
Riggs went to his forever home. He will have a 6 year old and a 3 year old to play with. A big thank you to the his family for giving Riggs his forever home!!
BIO: We rescued Riggs from the shelter where he was found as a stray. He is around 1-2 years old a very stunning boy. Riggs is settling into his foster home beautifully. He came to us as a stray picked up by a shelter, but he has great manners already and is very easily corrected when learning something new. He is a skinny boy right now, but he is very healthy, active, and he's up to date on all of his vaccinations he is heartworm negative. He is such a smart and sweet boy. He's great with kids, and he loves to play fetch and give affection. He is already picking up several commands, he is completely house trained, and he's great on a leash and loves going on walks. Riggs has lots of energy, so he will be good for an active family that can keep him busy.
Lila went to her new home. She lives with Crawfords. The Crawford family, parents, son and now daughter, have adopted GSDRGA dogs. Some of you may remember Thor, Wendy & Eve, when they were adopted. Isn't that amazing?
BIO: Let's welcome Lila to rescue! She was pulled from the same shelter as Riggs, also found as a stray. She is estimated to be 2-3 years old and has very pretty markings. She did wonderful at the vet, and likes other dogs and people. Lila is cat-friendly. She is healthy and we will update her info as she settles in.
Vixen, one of our Christmas puppies, went to her new home today! She's named Macie and lives in the Augusta area. She is the only dog and will get lots of love from her new family. Look how happy they are!
BIO: Vixen is one of the GS Mix babies we rescued from a shelter right before Christmas. There are 4 total, 2 males and 2 females. They were found together. One parent was a GSD but we are not sure of the other; it is a large breed. We named them Comet, Cupid, Noelle & Vixen. Vixen is about 3 months old and she is to date on vet care.
Noel, now Scout, one of our Christmas puppies in her new home! She is so cute and happy
BIO: Noelle is one of the GS Mix babies we rescued from a shelter right before Christmas. There are 4 total, 2 males and 2 females. They were found together. One parent was a GSD but we are not sure of the other; it is a large breed. We named them Comet, Cupid, Noelle & Vixen.
Noelle are black and tan with a little white on the chest. Vixen and Noelle are female. They are about 3 months old and are up to date on vet care.
Autumn went to her forever home. She's the only dog and already has a pretty green matching collar and leash set. Her new name is Carly. Big thanks to Katie and Meg for caring for her during kennel cough and HW treatment.
BIO: Meet Autumn, she is a 3 year old female sable GSD. We rescued her from a high kill shelter in Atlanta. She is heartworm positive and started on her treatment at the beginning of December. She will be ready for adoption in late January. Autumn is a very sweet girl, good with all people, kids, and dogs.
Lady is adopted! She went to her new home in Hinesville yesterday, just in time for Christmas.
Lady came to rescue in late June, with skin and eye infections, someone did not take care of her. Now, she lives on a large farm and has other dogs to play with.
BIO: Lady is a 6 year old female German Shephard, who is staying in a loving foster home in Roswell. She comes when you call her name and she is a real sweetheart with a warm personality, once she gets to know you! She enjoys going for walks and loves to "herd" other dogs at the dog park. She comes alive when she is surrounded by other dogs.
Lady requires a warm, loving home where she will be given attention and taken out for walks at least twice a day. She walks well with a leash and follows commands. Lady has put on approximately 5 pounds and is looking healthier and is becoming stronger! She is a well mannered dog and very obedient. She likes to be played with and is a social animal by nature! She is a true lady....
Here's Comet with his new mom. She had his crate and toys all set up for him and has already hired a trainer so he can work on good manners!
Comet lives in Roswell and is the only dog, and one of his adopters is home all day, so he'll have lots of attention!
BIO: Comet is a black and tan GSD mix puppy. He is mixed with another large breed, but we are not sure which one. Comet and his brother Cupid are 2 of the 4 puppies picked up from a shelter right before Christmas. Their 2 sisters are being adopted. Comet is about 3 months old and is going to be a big boy. He is already crate trained and can use the doggie door too! He is a sweet, calm and smart boy that is even learning how to walk on a leash! He will do well with other dogs and with children. So far, he will bark at cats, but is not too sure what they are. Comet will make a great family dog for any family, who has time and patience to exercise and train a puppy.
Cupid went to his new home in Savannah. Now named Kona, he's the only dog and will have lots of fun with his new family!

Matilda went to her new home, she lives in Suwanee and will be the only dog, so her new family will give her lots of attention. They had been searching for Great Dane for some time, and she was a perfect fit.
BIO: Hi my name is Matilda! I am an 8 month old female fawn Great Dane. I was found as a stray and taken to a high kill shelter. I was very skinny and scared. My foster family took me in, fed me lots of food and taught me how to live in a house. I am crate trained, house trained, and walk wonderfully on a leash. I know how to sit. I love playing with all dogs big or small. I am good with kids. I live with a cat now but I would love to chase it down. My favorite things are running, playing with dogs, swimming, playing fetch and dog parks. I am not your typical lazy Great Dane, so an active home would be best for me. I do need structure and am still learning what is allowed and not allowed so someone willing to continue to teach me is a must. I am up to date on all my vaccines, spayed and I have had my stomach tacked to help prevent bloat. I am current on heartworm preventative and flea medication.
Queen has been adopted to her forever home, just in time for Christmas!
BIO: Meet our pretty girl Queen! She is a young girl, between 1 and 2 years old. She's heartworm negative, up to date on her shots, and she just got spayed. She's settling in to her foster home and enjoying playing with another GSD and she's sweet with kids. Stay tuned for more details on this gorgeous and smart pup. She came to us through unfortunate circumstances.
Gemma went to her new home today, just in time for Christmas!
BIO: Gemma is a beautiful 2 year old female that was picked up as a stray. We rescued her from a high kill shelter that we work closely with. She is great with people and large male and female dogs. We do not think that she would do well with small dogs or cats. She is a little shy. so an adults only home or home with kids 12 and over is preferred. She'd do best with a large male dog or as an only dog. She does great in her crate and in the house. Gemma went to the vet and she is heartworm negative and has been given all her vaccines. She is spayed and microchipped. We will continue to update her bio as we get to know her more.
Trudy went to her new home, She lives in Dallas, they just lost their Great Dane, she is a perfect fit.
BIO: Meet Trudy she is a 2-3 year old Great Dane. She is a big girl at about 100lbs. She is a gentle giant good with dogs, kids but really doesn't like cats. She is house trained, crate trained and is learning basic obedience. Her ideal home would be an active one with another dog for her to play with, someone who can continue to give her structure and continue her obedience training. She loves to run and play at the dog parks and chewing on bones and toys. Trudy is vaccinated, spayed, and has had her stomach tacked to help prevent bloat. If you think you can give Trudy the perfect forever home, please fill out our application at gashepherd.org
Meet Ike (AKA Eisenhower)! Ike is a big, young, healthy boy who came to the Rescue through an Owner surrender, and he will be the perfect addition to a lucky family. Ike is between one and two years old, and he is a big, tall boy weighing in at 90 pounds. Don't let the size intimidate you, though, he is a gentle giant! Ike has been running around his foster home with a 6 year old little boy and a smaller female GSD, and he could not be more playful and gentle when playing with toys or just running around. Ike has also visited the dog park with his foster family and gets along well with dogs of all sizes. He walks well on a leash, and knows his basic obedience commands. Ike has never been around cats, so we're not sure how he would react to them. He's house trained, crate trained, and he has good manners. Ike needs an active home willing to give him structure, play with him, and take him on walks and adventures, as he is a young boy with lots of energy to burn. He's always had another dog in the home with him, so he would probably do best with a companion dog in his forever home. He is up to date on all of his vaccines, he's been neutered, and he's current on his heartworm preventative and flea medication. Ike is a handsome boy, and he is going to be a great addition to a family's life.
Rocco was adopted! One of our volunteers, Trinity adopted him. She lost her buddies Sasha and Max, a short time ago and he's going to be active and get lots of exercise in his new home. Our volunteers make very good adopters!
BIO: Rocco was turned in to a shelter in horrible shape. He had a serious respiratory infection and a skin infection. After about 3 weeks of treatment, he got better, but was HW positive and very thin. He was 60 lbs., but should be 75 or 80 lbs.
Rocco has gained some weight and is being treated. He's enjoying home life, after spending lengthy time kenneled in the vet's. He's already going up and down stairs, which he was afraid to do before. Rocco loves people and gets along with other dogs. We think he'd do well with older children, but he has not lived with them. Rocco has not lived with cats, so we are not sure about that yet.
Enya went to her forever home with the Baker family this weekend. She'll be the only dog and get lots of attention, and she has a nice big yard to play in! Thanks, foster mom Mary Ellen
BIO: My name is Enya, please take a few minutes to get to know me. Even through I am a mature girl (8 years old) I have a lot of game left in me. Let me tell you a little bit about my story. I lived with my person for a long time but unfortunately I out lived my person, I stayed by her side for the last two years as she was not feeling very well. It’s ok, please do not feel sorry for me it was my job.
Now on to the second half of my life, the good people of this group have jumped in with both feet to help me find a new person/family. Currently I am living with my foster family, it’s a big family; three dogs and three cats. I have settled in nicely but we need to help other dogs so if your reading this I know your looking ;) or know of someone looking for a great dog.
I am a very well behaved dog, I listen to my foster family, I sit, stay and walk great on a leash. Oh, I have I told you I love my twice daily walks and playing in the yard with my other foster dogs. One of my foster siblings is just a puppy, but I love playing with her. I’ve also been great with the cats. As you can see I am very flexible. I do need daily medication, so I need someone who is committed to me.
I’d make a great addition to any family, just fill out an application so I can meet you and show you how great I am.
Callie went to her new hone in Murfreesboro (outside Nashville, TN) this weekend. She lives with her new person and a GSD brother. Hope they have many adventures together.
BIO: Callie is a very calm, sweet GSD. She absolutely loves to cuddle, and will roll over for you to pet her belly once she gets to know you. She's loves being with her people as much as possible, and really only likes to go outside if you're going too! However, she'll gladly go outside to go potty and will come sit and the door quietly when she's finished.
She's very obedient so far, which has taken only minimal training from her foster family. She knows the "crate" command, as well as "lay down", "sit", and "go potty". She's a quick learner, that's for sure! She also responds to her name. She sleeps all night long in her crate without making a peep! She prefers for her crate to be in her "parent's" room so she can sleep near them. She walks on a leash beautifully and only tries to pull when she gets excited seeing a small dog. She's been introduced to cats while being supervised, and doesn't seem to have a strong prey drive or a desire to chase them. However, she hasn't spent time unsupervised with cats, so we're not totally sure whether or not she would chase them if given the chance.
She's a beautiful, gentle dog who is great with kids (even small ones!) and she'll make a wonderful addition to any family!
Sophie has gone to her forever home! She was adopted by the perfect family. She'll go to work at a dog training facility with her new person!
BIO: Sophie has come a long way since being shy and very sick when we got her from the shelter, and we are glad she has a new home. Good save, Vicke!Hi! I'm Sophie. This is me hanging out at my foster home. I am staying here while I wait on my furever family! I am about 3 years old and weigh in at a whopping 85 pounds! I am a sweet girl who is crate trained and house trained. I know basic commands and manners and I walk just fine on leash. A nice big bone to chew on once in a while makes me happy, too! I have never been exposed to cats so I can’t honestly tell you how I would react to them. I get along pretty well with most large dogs and I enjoy to spend my time at home. I like to go on long walks with my foster family and play with toys. I think a home with a male dog and/or older kids would be a good fit for me. Since I did not have a lot of training before coming to rescue, I'll need a home with leadership and structure so I can be the best family member I can be. I can't wait to meet my new family! I am up to date on shots and vet care, and I'm spayed, so I can meet them right now!
Shadow went home to his new family. He lives in Atlanta and has a new brother to play with. Great job, foster mom Sara.
BIO: Meet Shadow! He is a very handsome boy. He came into rescue very skinny and had the start of kennel cough but now his cough is completely gone and he is filling out nicely- he now weighs 65 lbs.!!! Shadow is 1-2 years old and does great with other dogs, small kids and cats. His name fits him well cause he loves to follow you around. Shadow is great on the leash and loves to walk right by your side to make sure that you are ok and just be close to you. Shadow has a very sweet and loving personality and seems to still be very young at heart. He acts like a puppy still and will need an active home, who is willing to give the same time and patience that they would to train a puppy. He does well in the car, is house trained, crate trained and is working on basic manners. When people come into the house, he does not jump but he does sniff. Get your applications in, this sweet boy won't last long!
Winston (aka Shrek) went to his new home. He lives with a family in Snellville and has woods and a pond to play in. Thanks, foster mom Angie!
BIO: Winston was named Shrek, but a regal GSD needs a more dignified name, so now he's Winston. He and his brother were turned in to the shelter by their owner. Both handsome shepherds had not been cared for, they had some hair loss/skin trouble and were thin. Winston's brother was adopted and so we took him in to rescue.
He was a sick boy, though. Like several GSDs we have rescued recently, Winston was coughing and a severe upper respiratory infection was diagnosed. He was in the vet's isolation ward 2 weeks but is now in a foster home and enjoys being a dog.
Winston is about 3 years old and almost all black, he looks as if he's from European lines. He is friendly to people and just wants attention. He gets along with dogs he has met so far, and he likes children. He is friendly to the cats he has met and would probably do well in a home with a dog friendly cat. Due to his size, however, we'd recommend a home with older children, he may knock little ones over due to his size..
Scarlett was adopted to GSDRGA alumni. They adopted Lars from GSDRGA last year, so now he has a new sister to play with! Great job, foster mom Diana
BIO: Meet Miss Scarlett! We think she is between 2 and 3 years old, and she had puppies earlier this summer. She is house trained and does well in her crate. She is already picking up several commands, including heel, sit, and stay, and she walks great on a leash - she does not pull at all. She is very eager to please and is easily corrected - she's still working on some of her manners. She is extremely affectionate, loving, and protective with her foster family, and she is gentle around kids. She loves to lay right beside you and relax. Scarlett would do well in a moderately active home, as she is laid back, but does enjoy going for a walk and playing outside. She is doing well with another young GSD in her foster home and we think she would be fine with any dogs with proper introduction. We do not know how she behaves around cats. Scarlett is such a sweetheart, and she has so much love to give!
Zane has gone to his new home this week. He lives with his GSD brother on Lake Lanier!
Thanks to foster mom Vicke and to all Zane's sponsors, we could not have placed him in such a fantastic home without you!.
BIO: Zane is a cute little 4 month old pup we rescued a couple weeks ago. He caught pneumonia from Harley, his foster sister. His care has cost over $500. Luckily, his foster mom brought him to the vet immediately so he will recover in a couple weeks. Then, he will be ready to meet adopters.
Harley came in to rescue about 2 weeks ago. She's about 6-9 months old, and a longhaired GSD. Her owners turned her in to the shelter due to "behavior problems" but so far, we have seen nothing more than a little shyness. She likes dogs of all sizes and people.
Harley was not feeling well, she lost 16 lbs. since she was at the shelter. She was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and is being treated, She's getting better and should recover in a couple weeks.
Thanks to Harley's and Zane's sponsors: Renzo & Bimmer, LuLu and Buddy, Honey Gibson, In Honor of Daisey.
Coco went to her new home, she lives in Sandy Springs with her new family and is already signed up for training class and maybe agility. Thanks foster mom Sherry!
BIO: Coco will make a very good family dog and has tons of personality that she would love to share!!Coco was the first dog that her owners had bought and led to them discover that they were allergic. After a few months of trying to rehome her themselves (they refused to take this sweet girl to a shelter), they reached out to the rescue and GSDRGA agreed to help. She is healthy and will be spayed prior to adoption.
Coco is 5 months old and very sweet. Her mom was a boxer and her dad was a GSD, so she will be a very big girl. She is new to the rescue, so we are still learning more about her. So far, we know that she is great with other dogs and kids, but we do not know how she does with cats since she has not had contact with any.
Ginger as gone to her forever home! She lives with 3 other dogs and will have lots of fun with her new mom.
Thanks foster mom Katie!
BIO: Ginger is new to GSDRGA. She's 5-6 months old and a sweet pup. We're pretty sure she's a liver German Shepherd, that explains her lighter eyes.
She would do well in almost any home but we are still learning about her. She should be ready for adoption in a couple weeks.
Kelsey went to her new home today! She lives with Tamara Smith & her family and will gets lots of attention and exercise, as the only dog. Thanks foster mom Diana!
BIO: Kelsey has the sweetest personality. While she's very active and has lots of energy, she also loves to lay at your side and relax. She is doing great with her "sit" command, and she is awesome on a leash and loves going on walks and exploring. She is loving playing with her foster sister, Gracie - they love playing tug and chasing the laser together! Kelsey is starting to pick up fetch, as well. She is great with kids - her foster family includes a six year old little boy, and she is very attentive, sweet, and gentle, and loves chasing him around while they play "football". Kelsey would do best with another big dog or as an only dog, and she is not a fan of cats. Kelsey is a very smart girl and eager to please. She will be a wonderful addition to someone's family!
Naya was adopted! She lives with a family in Marietta and has a new brother named Noah. How cute is that!?
BIO: Naya is a GSD mix puppy about 6 months old. She was rescued from a high kill shelter in Atlanta. She is up to date on all her vaccines and is spayed and ready for her new home. She is an active puppy that will do great with other dogs or by herself. She will benefit from obedience and or another sport because she loves to please. She is great with kids and loves to play fetch or tug with her toys. She is house trained, crate trained, walks well on a leash and knows basic commands . We have taken her to play in the river a couple of times and she seems to enjoy the water. She is a very confident puppy and will make a great addition to a family who has time to invest in a puppy.
Ben was adopted by the Woody family! He has kids to play with and will be the only dog, so he'll receive lots of attention.
Great job, foster Dad Michael
BIO: Meet Ben , he is new to rescue. He is around 4 years old and is a big boy at around 101 lbs. He is neutered and up to date on all his vaccines, and is heartworm negative. He is an active boy that would love to have a yard to run around in. Ben gets along with other dogs and loves children. He is not too fond of cats, though. He is crate and house trained, knows basic obedience and walks well on a leash. Ben is ready to meet his furever home, so get your application in today!
Shiloh went to her new family, have a great life girl!
BIO: Shiloh is a cute young puppy, about 15 weeks old. She was found in rural GA and taken to the local shelter.
She looks like a GSD, maybe mixed with a little bit of Rottweiler. What a cutie!
Shiloh won't be ready for adoption yet, we are working on training and socializing her. She will be available in late July.
Luke has gone to his forever home, he was adopted by Amanda, and is the only dog in their new home, he has it all to himself!
BIO: Luke was rescued from a rural shelter in North GA. He's friendly to the dogs he's met and loves people. Since he is about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Luke will need a home where he can receive structure and go through basic obedience, he has not had a lot of training and has to work on his manners. An active home would work well for him. He gets along with other dogs, but we are not sure about cats.
Khloe has found her forever home, here she is with her new family!
BIO: Khloe is about 10 weeks old. She was rescued from a high kill shelter in Atlanta. We believe she is a Belgian Malinois mix. She is up to date on vaccines and will be spayed and microchipped before she is adopted. Khloe is great with other dogs, kids and is crate trained and house trained. She loves to play fetch and chew on toys and play tug. She also loves to snuggle up and lay in your life. She is starting some basic obedience. Khloe will need an active family who is committed to raising and training a puppy.
Diesel went to live with his new family in Ackworth. He has a 6 month old GSD sister to play with and will get lots of love and attention.
BIO: Diesel is new to rescue. He is an owner surrender, he will be a year old on 7/28/13. He is AKC registered, up to date on shots. Diesel is good with kids, dogs and cats he has met. Diesel is crate trained, and knows some basic obedience like sit and down. He does love to lounge on a couch though, it's obvious he previous owner let him do this :) Diesel was just neutered
Marco went to his new home! He lives with Robert New, a police officer who was looking for a buddy.
BIO: Marco is a large, beautiful German Shepard and is approximately three years of age. He has lots of energy and loves, loves, loves to play fetch and go on walks and runs. Marco will need a moderately active owner who is willing to play fetch with him almost everyday and run with him a few days a week. He is very well behaved in all aspects and knows most basic commands. Marco does very well inside and is housebroken; he has never made a mistake. Marco is very good at recognizing what are his toys to chew on and not chewing on anything else. Although he has experience being in a crate, currently, Marco is left to roam freely in the house. Marco gets along well with other dogs, and he currently lives with a small dog. He does not do well with cats, as he likes to chase the cat he currently lives with. Although Marco is very well behaved, he will require a strong leader because he can be stubborn if you allow him to be. He is not used to small children and will need work with that. Marco is current on all of his shots, heartworm control, and flea/tick medication. Above all Marco, is a very sweet, very loyal companion.
Titus has been adopted! He's got a 10 year old buddy now, don't they look happy?
BIO: Titus was brought to us because his owner had to move to a place that did not allow him to go with her. Titus is 10 months old, very energetic and loving. He is great with kids and he loves to play with other dogs. He is learning to play fetch and loves to chase the ball and is working very hard to learn to bring it back so he can chase it again! We are still learning more about this handsome man, but so far he shows that he is very social. He has already been vetted with all of his shots and he is neutered. He is learning his manners and does well with house training, sit, stay and lay down. He will be on the smaller side as an adult, maybe weighing about 55 lbs. He'd do well living in an apartment or townhome, with regular exercise of course. Titus is a very smart puppy and does well with patience and lots of love, he needs a home that will play with him and teach him more because he seems to thrive off of doing well.
Andi went to her new home today She has a new GSD brother to play with now and it looks like they are getting along great!
BIO: Andi is a shepherd mix about 6 months old. She is on the small side, and will probably be around 45 pounds when she is full grown. She is energetic and will need plenty of exercise every day. Andi is very smart and wants to please. She has shown some dominance within her foster pack but not to people. She is learning basic obedience, and needs a confident leader who will continue her obedience training. She walks well on a leash, is crate trained, housebroken, and has shown no aggression in any situations. She is fine with cats.
Andi LOVES other dogs, and would likely be good with kids – but probably not toddlers or younger as she is still a baby and might accidentally knock over a smaller child in her desire to play. Her ideal home includes at least one other dog similar in age, size, and energy level to play with. She would NOT do well as an only dog. She needs a home with an active family – someone to take her on daily walks, or when she gets a little older and her bones finish growing – she would make a great running buddy. Also, because of her longer hair, she will need regular grooming.
DeeDee was living in a retention pond behind a school in rural Jackson Co. She had 3 other feral dogs with her but she was the only baby. Folks noticed the foursome living there but they were not easy to round up. School kids were beginning to taunt and throw rocks at the dogs so somehow they all were captured. Another rescue group contacted us about DeeDee, and GSDRGA knew we could help her.
In the beginning, DeeDee was terrified of people. Dogs were the only companions she knew. She even shied away from dog food, choosing instead to eat dirt and goop she found in the cracks of the driveway. Lots of calm, positive energy was needed to bring DeeDee out of her shell. But within just a month she has become a happy, playful member of the pack. She is great with other dogs and has begun to attend GSDRGA events as our Baby Ambassador for the rescue.
DeeDee is approximately 4-5 months old and weighs close to 30 lbs. she is HW negative, on flea/tick preventitive and up to date on her vaccines. She will be spayed prior to her adoption.
Bishop has gone to his new home! He lives in Roswell, and his new family has a lake house too, so he can stay very active with his new GSD brother. Thanks foster mom Allyson!
BIO: Bishop is a new rescue dog. He's a long haired GSD and is very much a puppy. We think he's a little under a year old.
Bishop likes other dogs and gets along with kids too. His new home must commit to give him structure and obedience training, since he's young and has not had much training. Bishop is neutered and up to date on shots and vet care.
Jake went to his new home. He has a new brother to play with, and they are building a second home in the mountains for him. Lucky dog.
BIO: We rescued Jake from a rural shelter in NW GA. He's a friendly guy about 2-3 years old, but someone did not take good care of him. Jake was very thin and HW positive. He has been treated for Heartworms and will be ready for adoption in late June. Jake gets along with other dogs and would do well around children.
Will.i.am is now Jethro and looks very happy with his new family!
BIO: will.i.am wasn't up to dancing in the club or drinking rose chandon when he came to GSDRGA. He had a serious upper respiratory infection. Luckily, we got him to the vet before it turned into pneumonia. He's recovered Everyone who has met him says he's a sweet guy, very friendly and laid back. We think he is 2-3 years old.
Dusty went to her new home today! She lives with a family, and has some kids to play with to keep her active!
They were on our list of screened adopters for some time and Dusty was the perfect match.
BIO: Dusty was rescued from a shelter, her time was up. She was a little timid at first, but she's a great dog, friendly to people and other dogs. We'll know more about her this week, after she settles in and gets to the vet. What a pretty girl!
Ruger went home today. He lives with his new family, in Johns Creek. He is the only dog, and can be spoiled, like he deserves. His new mom can take him jogging, and he has kids to play with.
BIO: Ruger was rescued from a metro area shelter. He's about 2 years old and seems well adjusted. He gets along with dogs and is friendly to people.
Raina went to her new home in Big Canoe, and has a new doggie sister.
BIO: I LOVE to run around with my brothers and sister and play, play, play. I am a great watch dog and only bark when someone comes to the door. Sometimes the other dogs keep barking but I don't. I know when foster mom says quiet I get quiet. I wish you could see me in person. My personality sparkles brighter than my beautiful golden coat. I try my best to be gentle and not pushy ( though it's not difficult for me as I am a gently girl by nature). Where ever there are people is where I want to be. I love the little humans even if they do run around and scream alot. The really little ones are really noisy! I don't get underfoot in the kitchen but lay down just outside the work area just like mom said to do. My new home can have cats, if the humans are experienced at introducing and supervising dogs and cats.
Simon has gone to his forever home! He lives in Atlanta. He has a doggie companion at home and a big yard to ply and relax in. Thanks to everyone who donated for Simon, this would not have been possible without you. Simon and his new person each found a best friend.
BIO: Simon used to be a happy dog. Like most GSDs, he liked to run, chase squirrels, and play ball. Then he got hurt and was picked up by the shelter. He had trouble walking and his back legs crossed.
When GSDRGA met him, it was hard to believe he was a happy dog. But we saw the sparkle in his eyes and agreed to help him.
A shelter benefactor made it possible for Simon to have a MRI; it revealed a herniated lumbosacral disc. The disc is bulging outside of the vertebrae, pressing on the spinal nerves. Simon is having trouble walking and is in pain due to the pressure. He needs a discectomy, to remove the herniated disc that’s causing his pain. The cause may be trauma or wear and tear. We don’t know his history, either is possible. He loves to be with people and go for car rides. Simon can be adopted to a moderately active home, he will need regular exercise. We think that an adults only home, or home with kids over 12 would be best for Simon.
IIsla went to her forever home today with Stacey Simpson. She has a new brother her own age to play with!
BIO: spa is a 7 to 9 month old GSD. She was found wondering the streets and a good Samaritan picked her up and took her to animal control. She is a petite little girl, but with some good food we hope to get some weight and size on her. Right now, she weighs about 25 lbs., and is expected to weigh about 50 lbs. as an adult. Isla is up to date on her vaccines, heart worm negative, spayed and microchipped. She loves people, children and playing with other dogs. She loves to ride in the car and she's always a charmer! She loves to play, play, play! She's as sweet as she is energetic. Isla will make a great addition to any family.-
Timber has gone to his new home in Atlanta. He has kids to play with and a couple cats to keep him company.
BIO: Meet Timber, a sweet, even-tempered boy who weighs about 90 pounds. We think he’s about 5 years old, so he’s got that puppy energy out of his system. That’s not to say he’s worn out, he still has plenty of go. Timber has a high ball drive so his human needs to be up for a game of fetch once a day. He also walks four miles a day with his foster family and does just fine. He does not pull and is learning to heel. He’s definitely an outdoorsman and will choose playing in the yard over sitting in the house every time.
Timber has done very well with his training and manners. He knows to sit, go to his “spot” and lay down. He also knows to wait until his release before eating and going up the stairs. You can hand him treats without fear of losing any fingers.
Timber gets along with dogs, large and small, and has done well with cats he has met. He would do well in a home with kids.
King is a male GSD who has had 1 owner in his life, since he was a puppy, and they turned him into to the shelter when they got a divorce. He has AKC paperwork. Since GSDRGA rescued him, he's been looking for his forever home.
King's ideal home would be with a strong, confident leader who has had GSD or large breed experience. King needs consistent communication and a leader who is willing to work with him, since he will challenge you. King is not a GSD for first time owners.
King is 6 years old, but is as active as a 1 or 2 year old GSD due to the lines he was bred from.
King is neutered and up to date on shots and vet care. He is HW negative.- ADOPTED
Heidi is a beautiful Black and Tan female that came into rescue from a local shelter. She was found wandering with her puppies, Bailey, Zoe and Schultz, who have been adopted.
Heidi is about 2 years old, weighs 70 lbs and will be spayed before adoption. She is HW negative and utd on all vaccines. She is current on HW and flea/tick preventative.
Heidi loves to be around people. She does warm up to other dogs fairly quickly if properly introduced. But she is a people GSD. She is housebroken and has good recall if off leash. She cannot be left outside alone in a fenced yard as she will climb the fence looking for folks to hang out with. If she is out with her people, she won't leave their side.
Heidi would be fine as an only dog if she was properly exercised every day. She has medium energy but no noticeable prey drive. She is fine with kids but they would need to be over 6 yrs old as she would knock smaller ones down licking them.
Heidi is crate trained. However, she would need to jog or take a long walk before being crated for any length of time. - ADOPTED
Merlin is a 1 ½ year old male shepherd, fully vetted, neutered, and knows all of his basic commands. He’s on the small size for a male shepherd, but perfect for someone who isn’t looking for a 120 pound dog, but wants all of the best German shepherd traits. Merlin has a great temperament and is very calm and docile. Merlin absolutely adores children, and children love him as well because of his size and good nature. Merlin loves to fetch his tennis ball and go on long hikes/walks/jogs with his foster mom. Merlin is amazingly smart and strong, and respects his handlers. Merlin is a great dog and would be perfect for singe adults or a family with children. If his good looks don’t get you, his sweet heart will! - ADOPTED
Jack was taken to the shelter after he was found at a school. We think this very handsome young sable guy escaped an undesirable situation. He is about 11-12 months old. Jack is doing very well in his foster home and would fit into almost any home. He gets along well with other dogs. He is OK around cats, but will try to chase them; he is learning though. A home with a dog friendly cat would be a best fit. Jack is good around small kids.
Jack does know some basic commands but we'd recommend some more basic training. He is housebroken and walks well on leash, and is getting used to his crate. He enjoys going hiking and running around so an active family would be good for him. Jack is completely house trained and such a affectionate boy. He is ready to find his furever home.
Jack is up to date on all vet care and has been neutered. - -ADOPTED
Hope is a pretty sable female GSD about 2-3 years old. When GSDRGA rescued Hope from the shelter, she was terrified of everyone and everything. We believe that's because she was kept outside and used for breeding and, therefore, had little contact with humans. She has completed obedience training to develop her confidence and acts like a different dog now.
Hope gets along well with other dogs and cats. She will do well in an active home. She gets along well with children. A large male dog who is confident, without anxiety, is a good companion for her. She must live with another dog. Since Hope will jump a short fence, a 6 foot fence is recommended.
Hope is spayed. She is current on vaccinations and vet care.- ADOPTED
Hello all German Shepherd lovers that want to find the perfect male dog. My name is Bo. My foster Mom is writing this on my behalf since i am not good with computers. I am very handsome! I understand once shown my property lines and I don't run off. I am a keen listener and sense all whats happening around me.
Bo is up to date on vet care and has been neutered. Since Bo is very young and active, a home with older children (12 and up) would be best for him. Bo has not lived with cats but we are learning how he'd do with them. - ADOPTED
Meet Zoe! She's about 13 weeks old and is looking for her forever home. Could it be yours? Zoe, her mom and 2 siblings were found wandering alone in the Atlanta suburbs until a shelter picked them up, then, they came into rescue. We're not sure how long they have been homeless.
Zoe is happy playing with toys and her foster sibling. She's fairly active and will require someone who is home most of the day, to keep her busy. Zoe would do well in a home with another dog or cats, or as the only dog. She'd be fine with small kids to play and run around with. Zoe will need an owner who is committed to taking her through basic training to give her structure that she needs. She does sit on command, is crate trained and walks on leash. We are working on housebreaking. Zoe's mother is a German shepherd but we are unsure of her father. It's possible she is mixed with another large breed. She has a GSD mask, and her ears are beginning to come up. Her paws are very big!
Zoe is healthy and current on shots and vet care. She will be spayed at adoption. - ADOPTED
Diesel is a handsome male German shepherd, about 2 years old. His owner tried to rehome him, but the adopter turned him in to the shelter for excessive chewing, typical for dogs his age. Diesel is very handsome but he has not had much in the way of training, so we'll start by teaching him the basics. He will need a strong leader who has GSD experience and can give Diesel leadership and structure. He should go through basic obedience with his new family.
Diesel gets along with other dogs, however, we don't recommend a home with small dogs. Diesel's dog companion should be a large dog close to his age and activity level; he would do well as an only dog. Diesel does not like cats. He is young and learning manners, so an adults only home, or one with older children ( 12 and up) is preferred. Diesel is an active dog, due to his age, and would like to go hiking, swimming or do agility with his new people. He will require a fenced yard. He is healthy and up to date on vet care and has been neutered. - ADOPTED
Tasha is a sweet girl looking for her forever home. She's about 2 years old. Isn't her sable coloring beautiful? She's been a little shy but is beginning to warm up in her foster home. She was turned in to a shelter because of prey drive, but we have not seen that so far.
Tasha is friendly to the cat, and gets along with dogs. She will play chase a little bit, but does not like playing too rough. We are not sure how she will do with smaller dogs. She would probably do well with in a home with children. She is on the smaller side, about 55 lbs.
Tasha is up to date on vet care and is spayed. She walks well on a leash and is crate trained and housebroken.- ADOPTED
Kane is a handsome boy, about 1 1/2 years old. He's a bicolor GSD, mostly black with brown on his legs and paws. Kane would fit into almost any home, he gets along with other dogs and has a laid back personality. He would do well in a home with cats and would probably do well living with children. He is fairly active because he is young, so a home where he could get regular exercise such as running or walking is best for him. Because Kane is laid back, we think he would do well with a first time GSD owner.- ADOPTED
Max is about 5 years old. His owner moved away and left him in the house, alone. A neighbor had taken care of him temporarily but was unable to keep him, so they contacted us and we rescued this big sweet boy. We're not sure he lived in a house before but he's doing very well. He is housebroken and crate trained already.
We have learned Max is Heartworm positive. Max is going through treatment and won't be available for adoption until February.
Max is a big boy, about 90 lbs. He's good with other dogs, but has shown some dominance. Max lived with children previously. He's moderately active and enjoys walks and playtime, but is over the excitable puppy phase. A home with GSD experience would be best for him.
Max is up to date on shots, and has been neutered.
Max needs sponsors to cover his care, which may cost about $500. Please consider helping him.- ADOPTED
Lawrence came to GSDRGA from the shelter in bad shape. His former owners did not take care of this beautiful boy. He had pneumonia, and was in isolation at the vet's for 2 weeks. He is recovered but is underweight. He's in a foster home now and we are starting to learn more about his personality. We shortened his name to help with training.
Lars is around 3-5 years old. He is friendly to the dogs he has met. He does well around cats, but though he is friendly, he will try to chase them. A home with a dog friendly cat would work for Lars. He has not lived with small kids but has been friendly to the ones that he has met.
Lars would love to be a buddy for someone who's a homebody. He does suffer from some separation anxiety and we are working through it. Lars knows some basic commands and is housebroken. He likes playing ball and toys but isn't overly active.
Lars is HW negative and up to date on his vaccines. He's been neutered.
Thanks Lars' sponsors: Amy; Anonymous Donor
Gertie is a pretty female GSD new to rescue. She's between 1-2 years old. She was found roaming, so we don't know a lot about her personality right now. Please continue to check our website for updates.
So far she is friendly with other dogs but has shown dominance. She would probably do fine with another dog that is on the submissive side. Gertie seems to be alright with cats. She does get along with children; she loves people and attention. Gertie's ideal home would probably have some GSD or large dog experience. Because she is young, a moderately active to active home would be best for her.
Gertie isn't feeling well. She has hookworms, ringworm and a UTI, so she won't be ready for adoption for a few weeks, after we get her healthy and spayed. She is HW negative and up to date on vaccinations.
Lucky was hit by a car and taken to the shelter, where GSDRGA immediately saved his life. We were not sure if he would survive but we got him to a vet quickly so he could be cared for. Lucky was hit in his front and had a head injury and hurt paw. After a couple days observation, GSDRGA was happy to hear he improved and would recover! His head tilts slightly as a result of his injury, but there is no neurological damage. It's likely his head tilt is permanent.
Lucky is a handsome solid black GSD, about 2 years old. He's a very sweet dog who likes people and other dogs, and he would fit in almost any home. Lucky does well with dogs he has met, however, due to his injury, he is not able to play rough for the near future. He enjoys running, chasing dogs and playing ball. His ideal dog companion would be a dog who does not wrestle. Lucky seems friendly to cats. He'd probably do well in a home with a dog friendly cat. Overall, he's calm and gentle and affectionate. Because his neck was injured and his back may still be sore, we don't recommend a home with small kids for Lucky.
Lucky weighs about 55 lbs. He walks well on a leash and seems to know basic commands. He is crate trained.
Lucky is neutered and up to date on shots and vet care. He is a faint HW positive, which means he does not require treatment, but must be kept on monthly Heartgard.
Lucky's adopters must continue his therapy for his neck injury, which includes massage and regular adjustments.
Ranger is a solid black male GSD. His owner was very upset to have to give Ranger up, but is relocating to Texas and there is a strict policy for rentals there; he was not able to find a place that would allow a GSD.
Ranger is 4 years old up to date on vaccines and heart worm negative. He is neutered. Ranger is a high energy dog with lots of ball drive, so a very active family would be best for him. He'd enjoy swimming, hiking or jogging. If you are interested in schutzhund, dog sports, or advanced training Ranger is your perfect dog!
Ranger is good with other dogs, and does well with kids of all ages. He does, however, chase cats. Ranger is crate trained, house trained, knows basic obedience, and walks well on a leash.
Jordan is a handsome male GSD, about 3 years old. He has beautiful classic black and tan markings. Jordan's owner was not able to take care of him, and he was living outside for the past year. He lost weight, and also developed Heartworms. He also had a bad case of Hookworms. He is done HW treatment.
However, he has lost some more weight. Since coming into rescue in July, Jordan has continued to lose weight. The vet thinks he may have inflammatory bowel disease and they recommend an endoscopy. We are also testing him to rule out EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. We are not sure when he will be ready for adoption.
Update: Jordan's endoscopy results have come back. He has Eosinophilic enteritis, an intestinal disease which is common in GSDs. His treatment long term is steroids and an immunosuppressant. He will also need a hypoallergic diet. This is a chronic condition, so Jordan will need the diet and medication long term. His new owner will have to budget for that. He is doing well with his new diet and has gained some weight!
Thanks for everyone's good thoughts and support and donations. We will continue to collect donations for his medication and food.
Jordan is friendly to people and other dogs, but we are not sure about cats. He has lived with children. Jordan knows basic commands and he is housebroken and crate trained. He has been neutered and is up to date on shots

Dora is a pretty sable female German shepherd, who needs a new home because her owner's child has developed a severe allergy to dogs. Dora is good with dogs of all sizes and has lived with her family since she was about 1 year old. Now she's 6-7. She's an active "middle aged" dog who's looking for a new family to call her own.
We aren't sure how Dora will be with cats, she has not lived with them, but she may do well with a dog friendly cat. She has lived with kids of all ages so she'd be fine living with small children. She'd make a good companion for a dog the same age as her who needs a friend and should do well as an only dog too. She gets along with small and large dogs. Dora would do well with a first time GSD owner, she is trained. She loves to walk and hike; an active home would be a good fit for Dora.
Felix is a handsome sable male German shepherd, about 2-3 years old. His life has not been easy, but he's ready for a new beginning. He was picked up by a rural shelter, in severe pain from trauma on his rear end. It appears he was hit or kicked severely in his rear end, and he had bruises to his tail bone, thighs and testicles. Felix had extensive nerve damage to his tail, and it was amputated. That does not affect his activity though. He weighed about 70 lbs. when he was rescued, but should have weighed close to 90 lbs. He is almost there now!
Felix is going to be a great buddy for someone! He loves to play with toys, and enjoys tug or fetch with his foster mom. He's motivated and willing to please. We think his new owner could be a first time owner, but should be a leader who can teach and guide him. He'll need an active home, with an exercise routine. He is calm and laid back in the house.
Felix is friendly to people and other dogs. He does well around cats. He'd do well in a home with children. Felix is housebroken and crate trained. He also knows how to sit, down, come when called, and shake paws. He walks well on a leash.
Felix is up to date on shots and is HW negative. He is neutered. Felix is located in Statesboro, GA.
Cissy is an 8 month old solid black GSD. Wouldn't you like to meet her? She is social and friendly. Cissy will do best in an adults only home or a home with kids over 5. She's young so an active home would be best for her. Cissy will do well with other dogs or cats. She has lived with big and small dogs. Cissy is housebroken, crate trained, and knows some basic commands. She's up to date on vaccinations and vet care, and is spayed.
Darcy is a solid black female GSD puppy, she is 5 months old and has AKC paperwork. Her owner surrendered her to us because she is older and not able to care for a young active puppy due to health issues.
Darcy is very cute, but weighs 50 lbs. and will be very large. She's full of energy and will require an active home with a fenced yard. She'll need plenty of exercise, so her ideal owner would be active or outdoorsy. Since Darcy lived as an only dog, she has not been properly socialized, which is important at her age. She gets along with other dogs, but her new owner should have time to socialize her to other people, situations and dogs. For this reason, we are not sure she would do well with a first time GSD owner. Darcy has not lived with cats, so we are not sure how she'd do. We think she'd be OK with a dog friendly cat. She'd do well in a home with older kids, she's friendly to the kids she has met, but she is a puppy and is still mouthing.
Darcy's new owner should take her through basic obedience. She had some classes and knows basic commands but she needs structure. Darcy is housebroken, crate trained, and walks on a leash.
Darcy is up to date on shots, is spayed and is heartworm negative.
Scrappy is a puppy we rescued from a rural shelter. We are not sure if he is 100% GSD, but his mother was a GSD. He had been taken from his owner, a breeder, because he was not leaving adequate food and water out for him. Because Scrappy did not receive adequate nutrition early in life, it's possible his growth may be affected. He may be on the smaller side for a GSD when grown. He is housebroken and crate trained.
Scrappy is 6 months old and is current on puppy shots. He is neutered. He gets along with other dogs and cats, but he will require an owner who will take him through an obedience training program, since he is a puppy and did not have structure previously. We think he would do well in a home with older children (6 and up). Scrappy's ideal home should keep him active and have a fenced yard for exercise. He'd do well with a dog companion that is young and active, just like he is, or he will be fine as an only dog. He loves to be around his people.
Eva is a pretty black and tan GSD, about 1-2 years old. This girl was found living under a porch with 2 young puppies in rural GA. We learned Eva is HW positive and has begun her treatment, she will be treated for about 6 weeks. Since she's new to rescue, check back for updates. Eva will not be ready for adoption until late September.
Fritz is a handsome male black and tan GSD, about 1-2 years old. He was found as a stray by a local shelter, so we don't know much about his former life. Fritz gets along with other dogs. We are not sure how he will do with cats, he hasn't lived with them. He would probably do well in a home with older kids, due to his extra-large size.
He has not had much in the way of trianing, so Fritz will require an owner with previous GSD experience. He would do best in an active home, where he could go swimming, running or hiking often. We think he'd do well at sports such as tracking or agility. Fritz needs a job to keep busy and active.
Fritz is up to date on vet care and has been neutered.
Karli is one of Addie's puppies, she's Cissy's sister. We are fairly sure she is mixed with Lab. Her ears are going up! She is friendly to people and likes other dogs. Karli is housebroken and crate trained.
Karli would do best in an adults only home or a home with kids over 5. She'd do well with other dogs or cats. Since she's so young, her new family should take her through obedience training.
Karli is up to date on vaccinations and vet care and will be spayed before adoption.
Shelby is a pretty black & tan female GSD, about 4 years old. She is large for a female and is full of energy. It takes a lot to tire Shelby out!
Shelby gets along with other dogs and may do well with a dog friendly cat. She is very active and will also need a strong leader, who can keep her busy and give her structure. She has been running with one of our volunteers and had no trouble keeping up! Since she is athletic, Shelby would do well at agility, rally or tracking.
Shelby would do best with another large dog, closer to her own age, who is calm, older and over the puppy phase. Shelby will also do well as an only dog. She does have some prey drive, so we do not think she would do well with cats or small animals.
Because of her size and activity level, she would do well in a home with older kids but probably not very small ones. She is crate trained, and has had basic obedience training. Shelby is up to date on shots, is spayed and is heartworm negative.
Cadence is a pretty blond and sable female GSD, about 4-5 years old. She's very affectionate but has had some anxiety during storms.
Cadence gets along with other dogs she has met. She has not lived with cats. Her ideal home would be with another large dog, with a laid back temperment, but she may do well as an only dog. We think she'd do well in a home with kids, she's friendly to the kids she has met.
Cadence has been through basic obedience. She is housebroken, crate trained, and walks well on a leash. She'd do well in an active home. Cadence is a fence climber, so a 6 foot fence or higher is preferred.
Cadence is up to date on shots, is spayed and is heartworm negative.
Blaze is one of Addie's puppies. He's a very healthy and happy puppy. He is going to be a very big boy! We are fairly sure he is mixed with Lab.
Blaze loves to play with his toys and he loves being outside. He's also very comfortable just laying around with the family. He's a little nervous when meeting other dogs, but quickly comes around and is ready to play.
Blaze's new home should be experienced with large breed dogs, because he will be such a big boy. He'll need a strong leader who will commit to taking him through basic obedience trianing. Blaze is moderately active. Due to his large size, an adults only home or home with children over 5 would be a best fit for Blaze.
Blaze will be up to date on vaccinations and vet care before adoption. He will be neutered before adoption.
Molly was very thin and had just had puppies when she came into a rural shelter, but now she is settling in to her GSDRGA foster home. She's about 2-3 years old. Now, she's gaining weight and gets along well with her foster brother and sister. She does not mind getting a bath! Molly is sweet, submissive and playful. Molly seems friendly around cats that she has met, she may do well with a dog friendly cat. We think she would do well with children, but she has not lived with them. She as an overall calm, laid back demeanor and learns quickly.
Molly is HW negative and current on vaccines. She has been spayed.
Kaya is a puppy we rescued from a rural shelter. We are not sure if she is 100% GSD, but her mother was a GSD. She had been taken from her owner, who is a breeder, because he was not leaving adequate food and water out for her and her brother. Her brother Aidan is in a rescue as well and is also looking for a home, but they will be adopted separately. Because Kaya did not receive adequate nutrition early in life, it's possible her growth may be affected. She may be medium sized when grown.
Kaya gets along with other dogs and cats, but she has been possessive of her toys and food. She does respond well to correction. We think she would do well in a home with older children (6 and up). She would do best in a home with another young, active dog to play with. Kaya's ideal home should keep her active. She loves running, swimming and playing outside. We prefer she have a fenced yard for exercise. Kaya will require an owner who will take her through a formal obedience training program, since she is a puppy and did not have structure previously.
Kaya is healthy and will be spayed and current on vaccinations before adoption. She's housebroken and crate trained.
Bear is a male German shepherd, about 2 years old. He was Heartworm positive and completed treatment, so he's ready to find his forever home! Bear is friendly to people and other dogs, but we are not sure about cats. His ideal dog companion would be a large female or submissive male, but he would do fine as an only dog too.
Bear did not have much training, but we are working on the basics with him and he's learned fast. He knows basic commands and walks well on leash. A strong leader or one with previous GSD experience is preferred so he continues to have structure. Since he is young and still a little clumsy, we recommend a home with older kids. He will also need a moderately active home where he can get regular exercise. He will require a fenced yard. Bear is up to date on shots and is neutered.
Addie is a beautiful female GSD, mostly black with some tan, that is about 12 to 18 months old. Addie is on the smaller side. GSDRGA learned Addie was pregnant after we rescued her. Her puppies were born 2/5/12 and are also ready for adoption.
She does well with children and other dogs. Addie has not a lot of basic trianing, but is learning and does respond well to correction. Her ideal home would be with another young dog her own size, and she will also do well as an only dog. We think she'd do well with cats. Her ideal home would be active, where she can stay busy and get lots of exercise.
Addie would do best with someone who is a strong leader, who can continue working with her on obedience and socialization. She does know basic commands, but is a young GSD who will need structure.
Addie is current on immunizations and is spayed.
Ranger is one of Addie's puppies. We are fairly sure he is mixed with Lab. His ears are going up! Ranger is dominant, and will need a home who is experienced with large breeds and a strong leader. He has an independent personality and is curious. He has also shown some prey drive. His new family must take him through obedience training, to give him structure.
He would do best in an adults only home, but he is friendly to kids. We'd prefer a home with no small children, due to his large size. He'd do well with other large dogs, but we are not sure about cats. An active home will be best for Ranger.
Ranger will be up to date on vaccinations and vet care before adoption. He will be neutered before adoption.
Sola is a beautiful female GSD who will make a wonderful dog for the right someone. She was rescued from a rural shelter, she was found roaming, so we do not know her history. Sola is about 3 years old, house trained, and gets along great with dogs. However, she does have some prey drive, so we do not recommend a home with cats. She would do fine in a home with small children. She's easygoing and would be fine for a first time handler. She's had fun in the doggy pool and playing ball outside with her foster family.
Sola is curent on vaccinations and vet care and is spayed. She is HW negative and current on HW and flea preventives.
Meet Toby! He's about 2-3 years old. His owner moved away, and left he and his brother Landon in his apartment. Toby is a nice, happy dog who loves people. His brother Landon is up for adoption but they will be placed in separate homes.
Toby is doing well in his foster home. He gets along with other dogs, cats and children. We think a home with older children may be best, since he hasn't lived with kids before. He will require a fairly active home with regular exercise.
Toby seems to know basic commands and is housebroken. He has been neutered and is up to date on shots. He's HW negative.
Sampson is a new rescue puppy. He is solid black and very handsome. At about 6 months old, his paws are huge and we think he will be a big guy. Bad news is... Sampson tested positive for parvo. He is feeling better now after treatment, and will be up for adoption in a week or 2.
Parvo is a virus that causes severe diarrhea and vomiting and is deadly in puppies. Sampson received IV fluids and medication so he stayed hydrated and began to eat. He had to stay isolated from other animals during treatment. Sampson's treatment cost over $400. Thanks to our sponsors!
Sampson is in his foster home now, continuing his recovery. Check our website for updates as he settles in.
Morgan is a handsome black and tan male German shepherd. He is about 4 years old. He has completed a training program at GA K9 National Training Center and is available for adoption. Morgan is trained in basic and intermediate obedience. His adoption will include follow up lessons at the training center. Morgan was shy and nervous when he came into rescue, and our trainers were able to build his confidence. He's a great dog who will make a wonderful best friend.
We recommend a home with adults only, or older children. Previous GSD experience or an adopter who is a strong leader is preferred. Morgan has lived with other dogs and cats. However, we feel he will do best in a home as the only dog. Morgan is HW negative and up to date on vet care. He is neutered.
