In Loving Memory
To some people, a dog is just a dog, but to many of us, a dog is a member of our family. Every pet is unique, and most have a story that goes along with how they were rescued or what they have meant in our lives. When we lose that dog, we've lost a family member and it hurts. We miss our friend, and we want them remembered.
German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Georgia understands that, and we're including a new page on our website to honor those dogs who are no longer with us. For a donation* to GSDRGA, we will include a photo of your dog (along with your dog's story, if you wish), your name and the dog's name. You may opt not to have your name listed.
All money collected will go directly to support the efforts of German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Georgia to help pay for vet visits, medicines and all the other myriad expenses that go along with rescuing dogs.
If you are interested in having your lost dog remembered in this way, please e-mail a photo to us at info@gashepherd.org.

The 10 years you were with us was too short.
You were loved by so many.
You definitely were your Daddy's girl.

Jill
Jill’s life was way too short but full after her rescue.
After a wonderful year or so with a great foster family, she was adopted by one of our volunteers. Her life was full of love and adventure. She was part of a small loving pack that included a Westie and another GSD also rescued by German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Georgia. Turns out, her new Daddy had a thriving dog sitting business so Jill had lots of furry friends around all the time.
We love you Miss Jill.
Misty
There once was a calm, gentle, kind-hearted, long-haired GSD girl-dog on earth to enrich the lives of all who crossed her path.
Of her birth and beginnings little was known for she was wandering for a time, at about four years of age, likely after chasing a little furry critter and from there ending up in a crowded animal-shelter in the city.
There she sat, ate, drank, and slept when she could. All in a quiet, trusting, manner, which was her way.
It was a loud, scary, uncomfortable place, and her time there grew long and based solely on time, her time on this earth was scheduled to end.
If not for the kind-heart of a person working there that could see her for how she was, her time on this earth would have ended there.
This kind-hearted sole kept pushing off that “end of days” and finally found the perfect rescue group, who contacted another, who contacted those who would soon be her new parents, who lived in what would be her forever home.
Her new mom immediately picked her up and her bond with her new mom immediately formed as they went back to her new forever-home.
Her bond with the rest of her new family, a new dad, and an elderly white GSD boy-dog named Prince formed quickly, and was a bond as close as the bond of a pack could be, enriching the lives of them all.
But her new mom still and henceforth always held a special place in her heart as she was her mom after all.
She loved to swim, run and play. But run and chase a football most of all, for she was now in a place of safety and love all around her. A place she loved and where she left hair, oh, lots and lots of soft hair; for she was a German "shedder" after all.
Soon she would come to meet and be cared for by the healers of the sick & injured of those that cannot speak for themselves. Healers of those who cannot speak of where it hurts or why they feel bad. A special place for everyone there soon grew as well, for though all were always concerned when she had to visit them, always … always she heard “Awww” and her name when she went there. This let her know she was in a place of safety and with those whose sole goal was to make her feel better and in kind hands.
Not long after, her now-brother Prince left this earth, free from some long-felt pain and to once again be with his brother Thor and sister Senja who had left this earth before him.
Soon after then she met a little, white, GSD dog named Nikki, who entered the pack from GSD Rescue of GA as a puppy. Nikki, scared of everything on earth but somehow, not of her, for she was kind and gentle of heart. Nikki sat on top of her as she laid on the couch, and the forever-bond with her was instantly formed.
She lived her life enriching all who met her. Swimming in the ocean, rivers, ponds and lakes full of fun, and chasing a football whenever she could. But most of all, she loving her pack, her back-yard and her home.
On an unusually nice summer day, that felt more like mid-spring, warm, sunny and dry, the healers helped her leave this earth to meet other past pack members in a calm, quiet, painless way, in the place she loved most - her own back yard.

Wendi
Wendi was described as having severe separation anxiety. Her foster told us that she had destroyed two crates and that we would have to put her in a reinforced crate when we left her alone at home. I was dubious about “destroyed” and didn’t understand the reinforcing instructions, so she invited us to her house. There she showed us a crate – not just bent – but mangled to the point of beyond use! Her husband showed me how to reinforce the crate along all edges with small hose clamps. He gave Wendi a mouthful of Rescue Remedy, and we drove home the night of Jan. 2, 2008. I had already purchased a new crate and set it up in our bedroom. We put Wendi in it, and she sat up and whined the whole night! We didn’t sleep at all.
The next day I stayed home from work. Then, I fastened 18 tiny hose clamps along the edges, cut and installed a plywood floor, bought 7 swivel snap bolts to secure the door all around, and put in a nice, thick pad. It was a totally wasted and unnecessary effort. She would not use that crate, but we NEVER had a problem with her being anxious or destructive when we left her alone in the house. The crate remained in the bedroom -- empty. She didn’t have separation anxiety – she just hated being in a crate!
Fast forward about five years. We adopted Eve in November 2011, and we could not keep her out of the crate; it was her secure place. We even shut the door to the bedroom, but she would sit outside the door – pleading with us to open the door so she could go in the crate. Then one day about a year later, to our amazement we found Wendi lying in the crate, perfectly contented! It was as if she said, “I’m the senior dog in the house, and I’ll sleep in this crate if I want.” From then on it was one of Wendi’s favorite places. Go figure!
