We Got Wheels!

We are  proud  to  announce  that  GSDRGA  has  its  own  SUV,  Waggin' Wagon!

A  very  kind  supporter  named Adam Markey donated the car to  us.  His  dad was an  avid  GSD  Lover  and recently  passed away. Adam donated the  car to us  so  we  could  use  it to  help GSDs.  His  kindness is amazing, and a testament of  what  people  will do  to  help  our dogs.

We can  really use a  vehicle  to  drive dogs  to  and from  shelters  and vets,  and do  longer  distance  home visit  or transports. That  can  put wear and tear  on our volunteers' cars.  We  will also  be  able to  have  our  car at  events.

We  will  need donations  for gas  cards and routine  maintenance,  if  you  know  of a facility  can    provide a discount  or if  you  have a  gift  card  to  spare please  do.

We've  been  around just  about  10  years,  and so  excited to  take  our  organization upwards.

Fostering

Meet Eva.  To  look at  her  now, she's a happy  healthy  GSD.  But about  a year  ago,  Eva was alone and scared at a rural  shelter in  North GA. She  was  covered in  ticks and  rail  thin. Without a foster home,  Eva  would  not  have  made  it out of the  shelter.

German  Shepherd Dog Rescue Group of Georgia (GSDRGA) wants to thank you for your  support. Thanks to you we have been able to help over 300 dogs like Eva since we started
our group in  2004. But we need your help to continue our work. During the summer months, we are going to experience the peak number of dogs in  need of rescue. This is particularly demanding because we are experiencing a  shortage of foster homes.  As you know, without foster homes, we are unable to take dogs into rescue. GSDRGA needs to expand our network of foster  homes and we are asking for your help.

If  you have ever considered fostering, now may be a good time to act.  The  primary qualification is a love for this noble breed. GSDRGA has some information  about fostering  on our website that may answer some of your questions.  GSDRGA  sponsors veterinary care for foster dogs and offers support to all new fosters.
We are happy to talk to you in further detail.  If you are interested in becoming a foster home, or have questions, please contact  us at fostering@gashepherd.org. or check out our FAQ page. There is  also an online  volunteer application at  http://www.gashepherd.org/volunteer-application.html

As  you consider fostering, feel free to share our  blog article with anyone you know who  may be interested in fostering for GSDRGA,  or pass it along to your vet’s office,  dog  trainer,  groomer, or day  care.  We realize everyone’s current situation may not allow them to foster, but  remember; you can still make a difference in the life of these dogs by  volunteering with GSDRGA or making a donation.

We  thank you for helping to save the lives of these wonderful  dogs like Eva.

DOCK DIVING WITH YOUR GSD

Dock diving is a wonderful recreation sport for any dog; especially if your dog loves water and loves to fetch!  That describes my German Shepherd Matilda to a “T”.  Some of you may not be familiar with dock diving.  I personally did not know much about the sport until last fall, when my dog had the pleasure of enjoying it for the first time.  Dock diving is a canine water sport in which a dog jumps from a platform into a body of water.  The dog may be competing to jump for the longest distance or height.  Typically, the dog will jump into the water after their owner or trainer has thrown a Frisbee or favorite toy.  I was truly amazed to see my dog grasp the sport so quickly and enjoy it for hours!

I wish I had learned about dock diving sooner.  I have owned a German Shepherd since 1996; last year was the first time I took my GSD to enjoy the sport.  If your dog has a history of hip dysplasia or cannot run long distances, dock diving is a great outlet for them to get exercise without hurting their ailments. You may also get some exercise as well.  My dog spent over two hours enjoying the sport the first time I took her dock diving.

So, you may wonder, where can my dog enjoy such a wonderful sport? NEXT WEEKEND at the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Georgia Spring Fling located at the Canine Ranch in Canton Georgia! Dock diving is just one of the activities your best friend can enjoy for the day.  The event will also offer an agility course, a lure course, and plenty of good food.  The event will be held on the 27th of April from 12:30-4:30.  For more information, visit the events tab on the website.  Hope to see you there!
